Thematic focus

The main areas of study are theoretical philosophy as well as practical philosophy.

The focus of theoretical philosophy is to discover and model the philosophical concepts in the development of western philosophy and to identify the major concepts in terms of their historical and rational context up to the present time. Modern epistemological approaches are derived under special consideration of the natural sciences and technology. Main focus of historical studies in the following epochs:

  • Present (general natural sciences, artificial intelligence)
  • Science and the natural philosophy of the 18th und 19th century (German Idealism, French Enlightenment, concepts of power and force, Newtonianism)
  • Natural philosophy in the Renaissance and Middle ages (Neoplatonism, Aristotelism, studies of nature, atomism, mathematization)

The major focus of practical philosophy derives from the special significance of ethical problems in relationship to modern natural sciences, technology, and economics. In particular, the main effort here is on the problems in ethical reasoning and in making the criteria familiar in philosophy useful for a differentiated application in specific situations. .
