Junior Professor of Vocational Education and Training with a focus on Digital Transformation

Currently, Mr. Saas is taking a break from his duties at the RPTU and is employed for the summer semester 2023 at the University of Education. Mr. Saas holds a position there at the Institute for Vocational and Economic Education as an interim professor of Vocational and Economic Education, focusing specifically on Economic and Social Management. We wish him great success with this parental leave replacement in Baden-Württemberg and look forward to his return in October 2023.

Curriculum Vitae

Hannes Saas is a junior professor of vocational education with a focus on digital transformation. The professorship was filled in cooperation with the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training, where Mr. Saas works in the thematic cluster Digital Transformations - Future of Vocational Education and Work. In the field of education, the junior professorship for vocational education and training complements the two existing professorships for general education and for adult education.

After completing his commercial vocational training at TUI, Hannes Saas studied business education at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz. He then worked as a research assistant in research projects in the field of empirical educational research. In the subject area of the ELMaWi project, he completed his doctorate in the spring of 2021 with Prof. Dr. Olga Zlatkin-Troitschanskaia on the video-based assessment and promotion of instructional skills in the study of business education. At RPTU, his research includes the impact of digital transformation in the context of vocational education. One of his focuses is on competence-oriented teaching-learning design, both at the various learning venues of vocational education and in the context of university teacher education.

In the context of his junior professorship, Hannes Saas is always interested in new collaborations and exciting topics in the context of vocational education. Feel free to write to him if you are interested or need more information. Hannes Saas is already networked with various actors in vocational education in the region. Among other things, he has contacts to companies that provide vocational training, cooperates with vocational training institutions such as the Chamber of Crafts of the Palatinate, gives impulse lectures at vocational schools or supports the interlocking of the various teacher training phases through cooperation with the study seminars for vocational schools.

At RPTU, Hannes Saas is a member of the Senate Commission on Quality in Teaching and Learning and, in his Department of Social Sciences, a member of the Expert Committee for Teaching and Learning. In the General Assembly of the Center for Teacher Education at RPTU, he represents the Department of Social Sciences together with Jun.-Prof. Dr. Inken Heldt. As a permanent guest, he also supports the collegial leadership of the Center for Teacher Education. Hannes Saas is also a member of the jury of the fellowship program for teaching innovations and support services in digital university teaching at Baden-Württemberg universities.
