Fachgebiet Sportwissenschaft

Since the winter semester 2005/2006 you can study sport at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern with the aim to become a teacher. Depending on your personal goals and ideas, you can choose between the study programs Teaching at Gymnasiums, Realschulen Plus and Vocational Schools.

A wide variety of scientific and practical sports content awaits you during the Bachelor's and Master's programs. In addition to acquiring knowledge in the natural and social sciences, your practical sports skills will be in demand in a wide range of sport disciplines (individual sports, sports games, leisure/outdoor sports).

You can make use of the options when selecting lectures as well as classes and set individual focuses in your studies.

The Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) and Master of Education (M.Ed.) courses are primarily aimed at qualifying students for teaching at school. The sports science studies also qualify for numerous activities and occupational fields in extracurricular school sports (e.g. Sport AG) and in extracurricular sports, e.g. in popular, leisure, fitness, health, rehabilitation and competitive sports in sports clubs and associations, with commercial sports providers such as fitness centers, in sports tourism, in the broad field of the health industry, and also for research activities in sports. For many of these fields, a Bachelor's degree in sports science can already be a first professional qualification.

The teacher education program consists of two subject areas and the accompanying educational study program. In the study programs "Teacher for Gymnasiums" (LaG) and "Teacher for Realschulen Plus" (LaR+), the subject of sport can be chosen as a discipline and combined with biology, chemistry, geography, mathematics, physics or social studies as a second subject. Both subjects have approximately the same proportion of studies and examinations. In the course of studies "Teaching profession at Vocational Schools" (LaBBS), the chosen engineering subject (construction, electrical, wood, metal technology, health and computer engineering) is always the first subject and the subject of sport the second subject with correspondingly lower study and examination percentages.

Half of the sports studies consist of practical sports courses and didactic-methodical exercises. Basic and theory-based knowledge is imparted in lectures and seminars.

The subject sport is composed:

  • Sport pedagogy and didactics
  • Movement and training science
  • sports medicine
  • sports psychology
  • Cultural sciences of sport
  • Methodology and didactics of sports

A sound and practical training in the methodology and didactics of the sports forms the basis for the activity as a sports teacher. In addition to traditional school sports, the range of courses also includes trend and health sports, which teach competence in a wide variety of sports. Through the study of the many sub-disciplines, a deep insight into the entire breadth of sport and sports science is given. The subject area attaches great importance to an interdisciplinary approach that closely links theory and practice. Based on current research findings, the teaching focuses on medical, pedagogical and psychological aspects of sport in addition to learning and teaching movement and training.
