PREP
Informal and self-directed learning processes of the population in the area of emergency preparedness
Project team
Project description
Crisis situations pose learning challenges for most people, as the skills needed to cope with them are generally not available, or not available in sufficient quantity. At the same time, learning under crisis conditions is overwhelming due to the high psychological stress and multiple practical life challenges. Preventive learning programmes are therefore a key requirement for civil protection to prepare for such situations.
The proposed funding project will investigate the extent to which the population is informed about the topic of "emergency preparedness" and how their information and training behaviour can be differentiated. In particular, the informal use of information and learning resources will be analysed. Building on this, the group of 'preppers' will be analysed separately, with a particular focus on the digital information and learning resources they use and create themselves, as well as individual and collective learning processes. Accordingly, the project is categorised as adult and continuing education research and focuses on informal learning processes in the context of civil protection.
