Usability studies for designing suitable assistance for industrial settings
with Katharina Mura and Prof. Detlef Zühlke
What kind of feedback (paper-based, video or AR-based) would be most useful for different tasks/environments?
Goal
Under the COGNITO project and the Smart Factory project, an Augmented Reality (AR) based assistance system has been developed in order to support manual task execution in assembly processes. In this lab we are investigating the circumstances for which this system enhances performance of factory workers better than other instructional methods, as video or paper manuals. The studies are being designed based on what is known about the relationship between attention, perceptual processes, and working memory capacities and the complexity of the tasks. In further steps, the way of information presentation through the AR device will be varied. The goal is to identify situations in which this system is particularly beneficial and to identify which aspects are important for the design of proper AR instructions.
