Research Interests
I am interested in syntactic developmental patterns in L1 and L2 acquisition processes in children and adults. During my PHD, I investigated structural priming effects (structural repetition irrespective of lexical items after exposure) in monolingual German and bilingually raised German speaking children across development. In my current project as a postdoc in the research unit (Structuring the Input in Language Processing, Acquisition and Change (SILPAC: silpac.uni-mannheim.de/), I am focusing on within and cross-language structural priming effects in monolingual and bilingual English and German speaking children. The main goal is to prime frequency dependent grammatical constructions or atypical constructions within and across languages to understand how and to what extent these constructions can be adapted immediately and across time. Priming as robust method to study child and adult representations, allows to investigate whether this mechanism can drive language change.
